Hauppauge, New York – March, 2003 –
The first annual "Women in Engineering" Achievement Award has been presented to Ms. Michelle Manzo, a NASA engineer whose efforts contributed significantly to the performance and use of batteries in aerospace exploration - specifically Nickel-Hydrogen batteries aboard the Hubble Space Telescope.
The March 4th presentation, held at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry, was sponsored by Permanent Technologies, Inc., creators of the "Tine-LokTM Vibration-Proof, Self-Locking Fastener System". The "Women in Engineering" Achievement program was a key feature of the prestigious 16th annual Engineering Awards Ceremony, which launched National Manufacturing Week in conjunction with the National Design Engineering Exposition.
Loren Ball, the company's President and C.E.O., stated that, "Our involvement signifies Permanent Technology's strong support of America's space exploration program and to commemorate the dedicated bravery of our nation's astronauts". He also revealed that the prize award is in the form of a cash grant which, at the request of Ms. Manzo is being forwarded directly to the Ernest B. Yeager Center for Electrochemical Sciences at Case Western Reserve University where Ms. Manzo earned her engineering degree.
Permanent Technologys was recently twice-named an award winner, as "Best Product for the Year (2002) in Category" for its innovative "Tine-LokTM Vibration-Proof, Self-Locking Nut & Bolt Fasteners", as well as being lauded as one of ten (10) top industrial innovations for 2002 by Reed Business Information Publications.
Ms. Manzo has also earned NASA's National Exceptional Achievement Award Medal and the R&D 100 Award for her role in the ground-breaking decision to fly Nickel-Hydrogen batteries into space.
